Our Story
Hey there!
I’m Jarrod, the CEO & along with my wife Kerri, Co-Founders of WACTW. Welcome to our family business!
WACTW was born out of a quirky family moment with our daughters asking us across the dinner table, ‘Hey dad, can we get a job?’ Too young to work at the time, we decided to start a business online that could provide them with some pocket money. BUT, there was to be one proviso;
‘We’d educate them on some basic ethical & sustainable business practices in the process!’
Our daughters wanted it to be a girls’ clothing range. Needless to say, fast fashion was off the table very quickly.
Serendipity, a chance phone call
Kerri & I decided to bounce our new brand idea off a good friend of ours, Emma, who specialises in the support of women who’ve experienced sexual abuse. She owns a counselling service in Queensland’s Bundaberg region called Wild Hearted Wellbeing. After a detailed & tearful conversation with Emma, she said something that would change our world & trajectory forever.
‘This brand has the opportunity to do some amazing good in the world & even if women feel better just wearing your shirt… it’s done an amazing job!’
Build an informal brains-trust
As a middle-aged male being the CEO of our new family business, I am as far from the target audience as you could get. In reality, part of the core demographic that is more than likely responsible & the cause for so many of the problems women are dealing with today.
So Kerri & I made the decision to build an informal brains-trust to help build our new-found brand. Consisting of small business owners, behavioural psychologists, a social enterprise developer, a midwife, a graphic designer & researcher, our daughters, a H/R expert, myself & a digital scientist.
